When it comes to the most disciplined school children in the world, South Africa tops the list.
South African schools have strict disciplinary policies that emphasize the importance of proper behaviour in class. From dress codes to time management standards, policies aim to help students develop responsible behaviour and respect for their peers.
The emphasis on high standards and respect for authority in South African schools can be attributed to the country’s history. During the Apartheid period, when discrimination was rampant, many students were taught to resist oppression through peaceful means.

History of Apartheid in South African Schools
Apartheid is a system of racial segregation and discrimination tha was implemented by the ruling National Party government from 1948 to 1994 which had far-reaching consequences for generations of South Africans.
Under Apartheid, all schools in South Africa were divided along racial lines, with white students receiving significantly better funding and facilities than those of other races.
Black students were also denied access to almost all universities, leaving them with few opportunities for higher education or professional success.
Apartheid in schools was enforced through a number of laws, such as the Bantu Education Act (1953). This act removed control of black education from the hands of parents and placed it in the hands of the state, allowing for increased control over which textbooks were used and what kind of education black students received.
The consequences of Apartheid in South Africa have been long-lasting and far reaching. Even after its repeal in 1994, racial disparities remain between white and black schools. The government has made some progress in improving access to education for all, but there is still work to be done.
