Kwa-Ntshebe serves Cow Head Smiley (Skopo), a dish made by chopping the raw cow head and adding it to a big pot with water. Salt is mixed in, and the mixture is boiled for at least three hours. Once cooked, the cow head is chopped into smaller pieces and served with peri peri sauce, beef spice seasoning, and phuthu.

At the Johannesburg Market, Moipone Mahlakwane is a food vendor who serves Magwinya (Fat Cakes). Dough is rolled and sliced into shapes before being placed in the fryer until golden brown. It is served with acha (local mango chutney) and/or white liver.

Etimbiteni Catering, also at the Johannesburg Market, is run by Robert and Thato. They serve Ox Liver Stir-Fry; bell peppers, red onion and raw ox liver are stirred in a wok before BBQ spice mix (a secret blend), Al’s chili sauce and more, are added. Spinach is also offered; bell peppers, white onion and shredded carrots are simmered in a pot before special seasoning and beef stock are added. Lastly, powdered cream of mushroom soup is mixed with water for the finishing touch. The price for this dish is 50 Rand / $2.95 USD.

Lungstaar, also at the Johannesburg Market, cooks Chicken Dust. Raw chicken is placed on the grill and seasoned with a secret bbq sauce. Lemon juice is squirted on top before more bbq sauce and peri peri are added to taste.

Mai Mai offers Braai; beef is seasoned with Six Gun seasoning blend before being grilled and boerewors sausage is cooked for roughly 20 minutes. Vegetables are served on the side alongside a helping of Six Gun.

No matter where you go in Johannesburg, you can be sure to find delicious street braai dishes! Enjoy your meal!
